Installation for 2012 Secret Garden Party festival in the English countryside.
Fire represents regeneration and life: the violent heat of flames and embers offering the possibility of new life or rebirth with their ashes. It is an integral part of important cultural ceremonies precisely because of this symbolic power. Each year Secret Garden Party goes through a similar process of rebirth, with 2012 particularly special because it represents the festival’s tenth birthday. Warmbaby wanted to celebrate the endless heat of life and rebirth through their architectural installation, using glowing uprights, charred elements and charred concrete bases set in a radial arrangement around a metaphorical heart of fire. They used their installation to focus on the spirituality and intensity of fire, and represent the birth and rebirth of Secret Garden Party through the twin fire ceremonies we experienced at the Burning Man festival: the fire and life of the burning of the Man and the intense and moving spirituality of the Temple burn.

Burn Test; an initial test was carried out by warmbaby creating a timber formwork for a plaster cast and burning it away. Several lessons were learnt, and possibilities opened up.
